We are careful…

July 02, 2010 By: admin Category: Passing Thoughts

We are careful with the thoughts we have

Because they become

The words we speak.

We are careful with the words we speak

Because they become

The actions we take.

We are careful with the actions we take

Because they become

The life we lead.

We are careful with the life we lead

Because it becomes

The legacy we leave behind.

Family Values

June 22, 2009 By: admin Category: Family Stories

After years of observing and listening, I’ve finally determined what The Keams Family seems to value most in each other.  We all have a touch of wackiness and moments of delirium, but somehow most of us always find our footing.  The same traits we saw in our parents appear in us when the going gets tough and there doesn’t seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Our parents were tenacious and had a strength of purpose in how they lived and how they approached difficulties.  They were not always successful, but it did not take away from their gutsiness or resolve to better their lives.  We all remember our parents differently because we all spent time with them at different times of their lives.   Read the rest of this entry →

Hair Mystic

April 30, 2009 By: admin Category: Artistic Expressions

The hair has always been surrounded by mystic and ancient traditions, such as the belief that longer hair equals more strength. Many cultures, including the Navajo, believe in the power of hair.  Traditional Navajo men and women wear their hair long.  It is said that a person with black or brown hair indicates that the possessor has great inner strength.  Therefore, it is bad fortune to treat hair carelessly and irresponsibly. Finding that special stylist and entrusting your personal mane to their care can be extremely difficult and stressful.  Fortunately, there is such a person, and she can be found with little difficulty.  Visit BrittanyRei.com

Peace in Composition

ctoc_bookset_1b_webHave you ever seen an object that instantly brought you peace and serenity?  There are few things in a city of concrete, glass and metal that brings to mind the colors of my homeland.  Fortunately, I have been blessed to know a person that understands the quietude that lives in the hills and canyons of the land where I was born and can bring it to existence with a few strokes of a brush.  I see the  places of my youth and the land of my people through his eyes and recognize them in the colors he uses to tell his stories. If you can’t go to one of his exhibitions, you can always get his book, Chaos on the Canvas. Visit ArtofHilario.com

Navajo Perspective

‘We the five-fingered beings are related to the four-legged beings, the winged beings, the spiritual beings, Father Sky, Mother Earth, and nature. We are all relatives. We cannot leave our relatives behind.’ Betty Tso, traditional Navajo
